El Sistema was my introduction to the field of socially oriented music education and it was my main topic of research for a number of years. However, my focus has been shifting over time. Between my books Rethinking Social Action Through Music and Musicking in a Relational Key, my role at Agrigento, the AHRC project, and SIMM, the remit of my work these days is social action through music (SATM) writ large, rather than just El Sistema.
